Back in December, we wrote that bots were rising on Skype—ushering in a new era of conversational computing. Today, we’re advancing on our promise to add helpful, fun, and innovative new bots with the addition of the Skype Scoop bot—powered by MSN—a quick and easy way to stay up to date on trending topics.

It’s easy to get the Scoop bot. First, if you don’t have Skype, download it to your mobile phone or desktop. Sign in to your Skype account or create a new one. You can add Scoop by tapping to open the Bot directory, then search for Scoop under the “Featured” section and click Get started.

Think of Scoop like your best friend who’s always up on the latest topics. Whether it’s politics, sports, pop culture, or even calories—Scoop resides in your contact list, awaiting your topic inquiry. Simply type your topic of choice into your Scoop chat and it’ll provide relevant summaries with links to the top news articles sourced by MSN. See the Scoop bot in action below—and add the Scoop bot to your contacts to get in on the full experience on Skype.

Once added, Scoop automatically provides you with a morning and afternoon briefing of the day’s trending topics. To turn off your daily notifications, type settings in Scoop and click Unsubscribe.

But, what if you’re specifically interested in politics? Or maybe you want to be in the loop on the latest pop culture? Scoop bot lets you customize your topics of interest. Simply type the topic you’re interested in and click Subscribe.

You can also add Scoop to your group chat to keep everyone up to date on topics your group finds important, such as what’s happening this football season. In the group chat, just type @Scoop and your topic of interest to get the latest news.

At Skype, we’re committed to delivering an experience that brings people together, makes you more productive and knowledgeable, and adds more fun into your life every day. With Scoop, we hope you’re able learn more about the topics you care about most, and share that excitement with your friends and family. Add Scoop today!
